Peek a boo - with Prickle the Hedgehog

Prickle is hiding behind the bush… can you tip toe up to surprise him?

ACTIVITY
pre assemble the paper before offering to the children. Then help the child to dip their finger tips into pots of paint and ‘tip toe’ quietly and slowly, creeping across the paper to find the sleeping Prickle hedgehog

You will need

Photocopy of asleep and surprised prickle hedgehog.
Glue, scissors, paper.

Children will need

Different coloured paints

  • Cut strips of paper (roughly 4” high and as long as possible!)
  • Cut out a bush shape (template not supplied – make it look like a cloud! ) and glue one edge on to the paper. So that it can be folded down to hide prickle behind.
  • Photocopy/trace 1 asleep prickle and 1 surprised Prickle (per child). Cut out and glue the backs together.
    Colour Prickle in if necessary.
The element of surprise! – make sure the child sees you placing the sleeping Prickle behind the bush, but at the last moment turn him over. So that once found the child assumes that they have woken and surprised him!
You could vary this in how noisily did they tip-toe over the paper, if really quietly maybe they didn’t wake him after all! (don’t turn Prickle over)

          Is he asleep?

Follow the path of paint prints and sneak up to his bush…

Suggestion for an information label that could be stuck to the picture for the parent to help the child play the game at home.
